Whether it's a personal goal or a medical recommendation, we'll help you achieve your healthy weight loss goals.

Healthy Weight Loss

Regardless of your reason for losing weight, it's important to stick to a healthy method. According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, the safest, most effective programs involve slow weight loss of no more than two pounds per week. That may not sound like a lot, but it adds up, and weight that is lost gradually is more likely to be kept off than that dropped as a result of crash diets or fads. Ultimately, healthy weight loss is about discovering and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, complete with balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and moderate indulgences. By taking this approach, you're likely to not only lose weight, but feel better, stronger, and healthier overall.

The Benefits of Weight Loss

The perks of losing weight go far beyond looking and feeling better. An article from Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health outlines some of the dangers of obesity, which may include an elevated risk for:

  • Diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancer

  • Joint pain and osteoarthritis

  • Reproductive issues

  • Depression and decreased quality of life

  • Lung and respiratory distress

Thankfully, the article also notes than an overweight or an obese person needs to lose just 5% to 10% of their overall body weight for health benefits to begin taking effect. For example, if you weigh 240 pounds, losing just 12 pounds (5% of your body weight) can improve your health.

While every individual's weight loss goals differ, experiencing these early benefits can be a motivating factor in continuing with a healthy lifestyle and weight loss journey.

Prescription Weight Loss Drugs

Are you an overweight or obese adult who has serious health problems because of your weight? Have you tried diet and exercise without achieving significant weight loss? If you answered yes to these questions, then a prescription weight loss drug might be an option for you. At Garden State Elite Medi Center in Mountainside, NJ, we may prescribe our clients these medications to be used in conjunction with, not instead of, a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen.

Who Is a Candidate for Weight Loss Drugs?

Our health care providers may consider prescribing weight loss drugs if you have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise and meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Your body mass index (BMI) is greater than 30

  • Your BMI is greater than 27 and you have a serious medical problem related to obesity, such as diabetes or high blood pressure

Before selecting a medication for you, your provider will consider your health history, possible drug side effects, and potential interactions with medications you're already taking.

How Well Do Weight Loss Drugs Work?

All prescription weight loss drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration for long-term use produce significant weight loss when compared with a placebo. In addition, studies show that the addition of weight loss medication to lifestyle changes results in greater weight loss than lifestyle changes alone.

Over the course of 12 months, our clients who take weight loss drugs typically experience a 3 to 7% loss of total body weight beyond that achieved with lifestyle changes alone. That may seem like a modest amount, but a sustained weight loss of 5 to 10% of total body weight has significant health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, blood sugar, and triglyceride levels.

How Long Does Drug Therapy Last?

Clients who have successfully lost weight and have seen improved health without significant side effects can often take weight loss drugs indefinitely. If you don't lose at least 5% of your body weight after 12 weeks on the full dose of your medication, your provider may change your treatment plan and/or consider using a different medication. Although some people gain some weight back after discontinuing the use of weight loss drugs, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help you maintain a healthy weight.

Lipotropic Injections

Please call our office to book this service

What Are Lipotropic Injections?
Lipotropic compounds are a combination of ingredients that help improve the breakdown of fat in the liver. Lipo injections reports that shots can improve weight loss by speeding up the metabolism and elimination of fat.

What's in a Lipotropic Injection?
Lipotropic injections have been promoted for the purposes of weight loss and sometimes for improved energy.

What is in Lipotropic Injections?
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is sometimes called the energy vitamin. This water-soluble vitamin helps to keep the body’s nerve and blood cells healthy.

Methionine is an essential amino acid that plays an important role in metabolism.

Inositol is a vitamin-like natural sugar related to the B vitamin family. Inositol helps to metabolize fat and may improve insulin function in the body.

Choline is an essential nutrient that is related to the B vitamins. It is responsible for lipid (fat) metabolism and transport and has other jobs in the body related to cell membrane structure and other functions.

How Do Lipotropic Injections Work?
Shots are usually administered to the arm and many clinics recommend that you get the injections weekly. The injections must be continued for the duration of the weight loss journey or for as long as you want to benefit from the effects of the supplement.

Get the Facts on Body Composition Analysis

Garden State Elite Medi Center provides our patients in Mountainside, NJ with a complete body composition analysis at the initial appointment. This provides a starting point for individuals who want to lose weight, with valuable information that will help our healthcare team develop a weight loss plan designed specifically for your needs.

What to Expect From Body Composition Analysis

Although body mass index is the most common metric used to describe weight in a healthcare setting, BMI is less accurate than body composition analysis. Our test provides information about the complete makeup of your physique, including fat, muscle mass, water weight, protein, bones, and minerals. With body composition analysis, we can track your progress over time as you maintain a healthy diet and exercise program and visit your health care provider for regular weight loss follow-up visits.

Common Terminology

As you embark on your weight loss journey, get to know some of the most common terms you'll hear from your health care providers:

  • Body fat percentage: The proportion of fat to your total body weight. Having a high body fat percentage increases your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer.

  • Body mass index: A comparison of weight to height used to describe body mass in a healthcare setting. However, it is much more accurate for population studies than for individual weight assessment.

  • Body water percentage: This is a measure of the total amount of body fluid. Healthy hydration improves your ability to exercise and your overall physical well-being.

  • Fat-free mass: This measurement indicates the amount of muscle mass in relation to your height.

  • Muscle mass: The amount of muscle mass is an estimate of the weight of your muscles. This measurement includes smooth muscles and skeletal muscles as well as the weight contained in these muscles. Increased muscle mass is often a result of a healthy weight loss program.

  • Recommended daily caloric intake: The number of calories you should eat each day to maintain your current weight.

  • Visceral fat: This type of fat, which protects the abdominal organs, often shifts and becomes more visible as we age. High visceral fat levels are also associated with chronic health conditions.

Teeth Whitening

Garden State Elite Medi Center's in-office teeth bleaching provides the quickest way to whiten teeth.  With our in-office bleaching the whitening product is applied directly to the teeth. These products can be used in combination with heat, a special light, or a laser.  However, with in-office bleaching, dramatic results can be seen after the first treatment.

What causes tooth staining?

Age: There is a direct correlation between tooth color and age. Over the years, teeth darken as a result of wear
and tear and stain accumulation. Teenagers will likely experience immediate, dramatic results from whitening. In
the twenties, as the teeth begin to show a yellow cast, teeth-whitening may require a little more effort. By the 40s,
the yellow gives way to brown and more maintenance may be called for. By the fifties, the teeth have absorbed
a host of stubborn stains, which can be more difficult to remove.

Translucency and Thickness: These are also genetic traits that become more pronounced with age.
While all teeth show some translucency, those that are opaque and thick have an advantage: they appear lighter
in color, show more sparkle and are responsive to bleaching. Teeth that are thinner and more transparent –
most notably the front teeth – have less of the pigment that is necessary for bleaching. Transparency is the only
condition that cannot be corrected by any form of teeth whitening.

Eating Habits: The habitual consumption of red wine, coffee, tea, cola, carrots, oranges and other deeply-
colored beverages and foods causes considerable staining over the years. In addition, acidic foods such as
citrus fruits and vinegar contribute to enamel erosion. As a result, the surface becomes more transparent and
more of the yellow-colored dentin shows through.

Smoking Habits: Nicotine leaves brownish deposits, which slowly soak into the tooth structure and cause
intrinsic discoloration.

Drugs and Chemicals: Tetracycline usage during tooth formation produces dark gray or brown ribbon stains,
which are very difficult to remove. Excessive consumption of fluoride causes fluorosis and associated areas of
white mottling.

Grinding: Most frequently caused by stress, teeth grinding (gnashing) can add to micro-cracking in the teeth
and can cause the biting edges to darken.

Trauma: Falls and other injuries can produce sizable cracks in the teeth, which collect large amounts of stains
and debris.

***Artificial teeth, caps, crowns, veneers, porcelain, composite or other restorative materials, might not achieve dramatic results because the peroxide gel will not whiten them past their original color.
